DUST OFF THE DARLING

Johannesburg  |  South Africa

Possibly one of the best transformations we’ve seen in a home, prior to our design installation, the space had red walls, heavy furniture and was not a representation of the warm family that welcomed us at the door. Many families have heirlooms passed down from generation to generation and it can be hard to let go of things that we attach sentimental value to. We don’t encourage our clients to wipe the slate clean and start new, we always like to work with their existing pieces as this is what brings heart and soul into a home and differentiates it from looking like a showroom. This family attached a lot of emotion to their dining set and wanted to hold onto it. We gave new life to the chairs by upholstering them in a bold protea print from Whatnot. Being Lebanese, entertainment is in this family’s bones. It’s not unusual for them to have 30 family members over every weekend so we transformed the former dining room into a coffee bar, an informal bar that is multifunctional. In the mornings, you can enjoy a freshly brewed coffee, while in the afternoon the space can be overrun by papers and colouring crayons as the kids do their homework, come evening the lights dim, the mood is set, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a few drinks with friends.
