At Profurn, our philosophy is true to the core of our being, we strive to be people who are salt of the earth and enjoy working with clients who share that same ethos. We believe in a simple approach to design and never aim to put ourselves in the spotlight. Rather, it is our goal to be a gentle, guiding light that celebrates you and brings your vision to life.
Our careful guidance and attention to detail means that we can take your brief and create magic within a space. That is our responsibility and that is what feeds our soul. We have a humble approach to design, rather than striving for fame, we strive for long-lasting, happy relationships with our clients.
No project is too big or too small for us. We’ve designed and styled residential and hospitality projects throughout South Africa, private villas in Muscat and Bazaruto Island, country homes in the UK, ski chalets in Verbier and luxury tented camps in Africa. Each space is unique and each interior feeds our soul in different ways.
Founded in 1984, we have had over 30 years to build solid relationships with key suppliers within the local design market. We are therefore able to provide our clients with quality products which meet and surpass their expectations within the time constraints and budget. We are a small, hands-on team based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Meet the team.
Hi, I’m Tanja, I joined the Profurn team in 1995 headed up by my father, a very talented designer and his business partner who started the company 10 years earlier. From humble beginnings to handling multi-million rand contracts for prestigious clients, supported by a staff body of 20, Profurn Contracts managed to etch a reputable name in our industry.
I was a wide-eyed graduate with an Interior Design degree in hand, I had big ideas and was ready to learn. Reality hit me very quickly being thrown into the deep end and being taught that in this business you do what you need to do.
I was also extremely fortunate to have my mother's guidance, an accomplished interior decorator with her own successful company, teaching me the importance of creating a harmony between hard finishes and soft decorative touches. As one would say, the design blood runs deep in our family.
When I took over the business, I knew I wanted to inject a bit of my personality.
I wanted my business to be hands on, personal, and work on projects that fed the soul.
No project is too big or too small for our incredible team, and I always believed that there are no problems, only solutions. It's’ always been my great joy to create beautiful spaces for people to take pleasure in - this is what keeps my fire burning.
Our design studio, nestled into my garden is my happy place, an extension to who I am. Most importantly, it gives me the balance between my growing family and work where I am available and present for both aspects of my life.
25 years on, I feel grateful and lucky to say that my business has moulded itself into my being where clients become friends and projects are beautiful conversations over a coffee.
